Children's Muay Thai Program

Little Dragons            (ages 4-6)
Children's Classes   (ages 6 and older)

Muay Thai,  also known as “the Art of Eight Limbs” and Thai Boxing, is a martial art that focuses on the striking and clinch aspect of a self-defense situation.

By utilizing a combination of Western Boxing, knees, elbows, and kicks it has proven itself to be the most proficient and effective of the striking martial arts.

Training in Muay Thai focuses on cardiovascular fitness, pad work, bag work, shadow boxing, clinch work, and sparring.  Due to the simplicity and straightforwardness of Muay Thai techniques, an individual is able to strike at their assailant with both speed and power, while not compromising their defenses.

In addition to these traditional Muay Thai techniques, children in this program
will also learn how to defend themselves with many of the standing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu moves.  This includes escapes from being grabbed, choked, held against your will, and many other realistic situations.  Children will also learn how to avoid confrontation all together by learning the key signals of dangerous situations and dangerous people.  The ultimate goal of the training is to be prepared for any situation, but to also know that the best alternative is to avoid these situations all together.

The children training at Tomekichi Martial Arts will learn everything that Muay Thai has to offer in a safe and controlled manner.  This program is the perfect system for children of any age.  It emphasizes practical application of real life techniques while fostering respect and integrity among the students.

Strength, Confidence, Integrity

Children's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (ages 9 and older)

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position and using major joint-locks and chokeholds to incapacitate or submit an opponent.   BJJ promotes the principle that a person regardless of size, age, and physical ability can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique.

Drilling techniques, positional drilling, and sparring, commonly referred to as “rolling”, play major roles in the system.  Due to the nature of the training, individuals are able to apply the techniques effectively and safely in a very short period of time.

This program is taught by Mr. Frank Maryska and is an excellent system for any child and any skill level.  This class will increase your child's endurance, conditioning, body coordination, mental cognition, and so much more.  This is an extremely close combat martial art.  It is taught in a very safe and controlled manner but does require a certain level of maturity to practice and become proficient with the techniques.  Because of this, the BJJ program is recommended for children ages 9 and older. (Some exceptions can be made depending on the child)

Home School Program

Our home school program is perfect for students looking for a new activity during the day to supplement their education and growth.  This is a Muay Thai program that takes place in the early afternoon and is taught by Mr. Chris Hatcher.  This is a great activity to add to your child's day, not only for the exercise and incredible classes, but also for another social outlet to meet some life long friends.  In this course the children will learn everything that the Muay Thai program (listed above) has to offer.   Martial Arts program have been shown to improve grades in school, increase socialization skills, and increase focus.

While your children are training here, feel free to work out in our full gym or have a parent's lunch next door at Beef O' Brady's or one of the several restaurants soon to open in Cornerstone Village.  If you are interested in this program, don't hesitate, it is a great opportunity for your child.  This class is available for individual families or full home school networks.  If you are interested in group packages for your local home school network please contact Chris Hatcher at chris@tomekichimartialarts.com or send a message to him on our "contact" page.
